About Red Thread: Red Thread is a contemporary folk group featuring voice, acoustic guitar, and electronic loops/production. Fusing storytelling, humor, and exploration of immigrant roots, Red Thread’s music is full of intricate vocal harmony. Their music explores the cultural influences of European-descended roots music, including Balkan, Yiddish, Irish, Scandinavian, and Americana folk songs.

Program Description: Red Thread performs folk music from several generations of Minnesotan immigrants and European immigrant descendants to craft a musical journey through the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Ireland, Scandinavia, and the US. Students will witness the ways that folk songs convey the stories of people’s lived experiences and community history. Students will understand that song and music can be tools for telling one’s own stories.
